The Characters

Oscar is one of the first characters you get in the game. He's a lance knight who once served in the Cremian Royal Army. He has two younger brothers, Boyd and Rolf. Oscar's listing can be found here.

Kieran joins the party later, in the chapter called Prisoner Release. Some walkthroughs say he only joins if you talk to him with Oscar; I have yet to test this. The conversation, which is quite comical, can be found here.

The following information on character acrhetypes is from Wikipedia. These archetypes are based on the characters from the early games, and take those characters' names.

Abel: (Oscar)
A term used for a green-armoured or jade-armoured cavalier (or some other unpromoted class) who has ties with a red-armoured cavalier, and who relies on speed, skill, accuracy, and luck. Some of such characters are notorious womanizers. Apart from Abel, such characters include Alec of Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu, Archis of Tear Ring Saga: Yutona Eiyuu Senki, Lance of Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi, Sain of Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken despite having the stats of a Kain, Kyle of Fire Emblem: Seima no Kouseki, and Oscar of Fire Emblem: Souen no Kiseki.

Kain: (Kieran)
A term used for a very handsome man who is a red-armoured or orange-armoured cavalier and has ties with a green-armoured cavalier, and relies on HP, strength, and defense. Apart from Kain, such characters include Noish of Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu, Klyce of Tear Ring Saga: Yutona Eiyuu Senki, Alan of Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi, Kent of Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken despite having the stats of an Abel, Forde of Fire Emblem: Seima no Kouseki, and Kieran of Fire Emblem: Souen no Kiseki.

The Relationship

Kieran takes it upon himself to swear Oscar as his only true rival. As far as I can tell, this is because Oscar bested him in a competition/horse race even though Kieran practiced day and night. This was in a support conversation I read the first time through the game; I can't remember it exactly but once I write it down I'll put it up.

Kieran has a tendency to jump to conclusions without any information, which is apparent in the two's first conversation. Kieran's over-excited personality clashes with Oscar's calm, typically cool mentality, making for some interesting conversations and a perfect recipe for rivalry.

As with most of the images I use, I found this one by Google-ing "Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance." I found it before I thought of doing this listing; therefore, I don't have the url. Too bad Oscar's horse looks like a mule! ^_^
